This article appears in the November 2019 issue of our monthly newsletter Public Safety Labor News.
This journal is published nation-wide to police officers, labor attorneys, and such…. PLEA has fought for Weingarten representation for witness police officers; police officers now, are entitled to this protection… A right for police officers that PLEA researched, and developed, and Florida’s Public Employment Relations Commission, PERC, agreed with us. PLEA fought this and won! Yet, we must wonder why, wouldn’t the PBA argue this right for all police officers, whether they are a subject or a witness?
Please read the article, Dan
PLEA is a multi-ethnic police employee organization whose primary objective is to ensure its membership fair and equitable treatment by their respective Law enforcement Agencies. In order to guarantee this protection, PLEA’s in-house legal counsel provides immediate and efficient legal defense when needed.
The Association’s continued success is derived from our reputation. All members of the Executive Board, as well as the Association’s attorneys are on 24-hour call in order to better serve our membership. As a member you are guaranteed the services of the Executive Board, Board of Advisors and its representative, to include the services of an attorney.
The Professional Law Enforcement Association is not the bargaining agent for the Miami-Dade Police Department. PLEA is not politically allied with the Command Staff or the Miami-Dade Police Department or the Miami-Dade Government. The absence of “political indebtedness” enables the Association to address issues of membership interest, immediately, impartially and without fear of administrative retribution. Our motto is “Defender of Police Officers' Rights”; we are proud to make this distinction. It is this distinction that has enabled us to become the recognized bargaining agent for the Village of Virginia Gardens Police Department as well.
PLEA welcome the affiliation of the International Union of Police Association (IUPA) to ensure PLEA’s reputation in defending those rights.
